Should Government Subsidise These Electric Scooters?
Fossil fuels are getting scarce and environment becomes deteriorating each days, while economy is dive-nosing; the introduction of the electric scooters are just timely and sensible.
I'm referring to a news report published today in The Star Online that warrants a closer look from any ones who are concerning the whole affairs of a sustainable environment and of course, economy.
I think the government should seriously considering a subsidy for the scooter as this is strategically important for our country's future, especially in the State of Sabah where eco-tourism is the focus of the tourism industry.
In order to have significant achievement, certain policy must change in gradual stages / steps to anticipate the move towards greener society such as reducing/limiting car access to the city centre, higher taxes & road taxes on petrol-based vehicles etc.
The Stimulus package introduced by the government should be playing a role in encouraging people switching to sustainable energy transportation.
The public should consider this move as "Money Wise Spent".

Electric scooters on our roads soon
KUALA LUMPUR: How does one cruise on the road without having to worry about petrol prices? With an electric scooter or bicycle, of course.
Better yet, these machines are completely pollution-free. Platinum Logistics Corp Sdn Bhd managing director Albakri Ali said all it takes is a three-point power plug to charge the lead acid battery of the scooter.

PSD Scholarship Based On Merit And Household Income?
I'm delighted to hear that the proposal led by MCA has the "support" from Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan which is published in The Star Online Friday February 13, 2009:-
Merit, income criteria for PSD scholarship
By ROYCE CHEAH
SERDANG: Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan has agreed that the Public Service Department scholarship should be awarded based only on merit and household income, after discussions with MCA leaders and community heads.
MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said consensus was reached at a recent meeting and that the idea would be brought to the Cabinet for further discussion.
The other leaders involved in the move were from the Indian and Sabah and Sarawak ethnic communities.
Questions are:-
Is this the trend leading towards a just and fair society in Malaysia?
Is it just something put up ahead of the by-polls to be held soon in Perak and Kedah?
Is it real?
What ever it is, this is a positive act and the right attitude from the government, especially the civil service, that the country now highly depends on.
Apart from the approval from the cabinet, the effectiveness in discharging their (PSD especially) duties determines the success or failure of implementing the "new policy". In view of the economy outlook, they should expedite the delivery system the fastest possible way, and reduce all the unnecessary red tapes.
The PSD must also be impartial or seen impartial in its handling.
No ones should be deprived of the opportunity of further education because of financial reason.
The next thing from the government is on making sure they (the students) are able to find jobs upon their graduation. The government and the society should "exploit" their talents and new skills in full, and not letting the asset turns to waste.
This is a matter of sustainable economy issue which is often ignored and neglected by the administrator.
Let's hope that the proposal is quickly adopted in full by the coming cabinet meeting.

Would banning Karpal from entering Perak improves respect for the Sultan?
My view on the following piece of news published in The Star Online today:-
"Ban Karpal from entering Perak"
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2009/2/12/nation/20090212154840&sec=nation
I don't think the above call by PKDK president Datuk Tengku Zainol Rashid Tengku Yahya to ban Karpal from entering the state could change the situation. On the contrary, it may create more unnecessary misunderstandings and negative impressions towards our constitution as well as our maturity in politic.
It may not be appropriate for the istana to issue any statement for the infamous decision made on events happened recently, however, people has the right to express themselves and Karpal, being an outspoken politician, should be given the chance to explain his action later when things are settled down.
It's definitely inappropriate for any party to stir up issues where "harsh" and inappropriate actions can only create more resentments, suspicions and unnecessary speculations.
If Karpal were "wrong", there are constitutions and laws that would put him to the appropriate punishments he deserves. After all, Karpal has been a senior lawyer and as an elected representative for years whom should know the limit.
If the call by PKDK president is materialized, a lot of the citizens may not be allowed to enter the state of Perak, not mentioning the problems on setting up checkpoints at all the major entry points in the state for the purpose.
The ruler is above politic and free from politic; in due respect, no political parties should involve the ruler in any way that could tarnish their image and integrity.

Sabah Needs More Cares From Federal
I read with regrets from the following Bernama News this morning:-
TAWAU, Feb 11 (Bernama) -- Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said students who have no birth certificates can still enrol at secondary schools provided one of the parents are Malaysian citizens.
http://www.bernama.com/bernama/v5/newsgeneral.php?id=389027
The announcement should at least solved some of the woes of the Sabahan on educational aspect but what about other areas such as when visiting health services, welfare department, and so on.
"Hishammuddin said delay by the National Registration Department (NRD) to issue birth certificates should not be used as an excuse by schools to reject the students."
"The NRD will take some time to issue the birth certificates and this will pose a problem to the students when applying to enrol at schools," he added."
Well, I hope that Syed Hamid, the minister of Home Affairs is listening and really pressing his ministry and the NRD to work faster as the livelihood of these people are at stake because of their "blur" status. Be they granted citizenship or not, the process period must not be delayed unreasonably so as to affect their life.
The undetermined figure of actual citizens (census)in the state would also cause incorrect economic and government services planning.
The performance of the NRD has been poor judging from the impression given by the general public who has to deal with the department on citizenship or status application.
BN government can solve all the problems of the people if and only if the man-in-charge has the caring "heart" or sincerity. Sabahan will definitely appreciate for those who has been helping the state.

http://ocdn.founder.net.my/news.php?newsid=36041
