Let's Declare September 16 our 1Malaysia Day

Let's declare 16-September a national holiday to be celebrated by all, and why not we call it our "1Malaysia Day" to be aligning with the spirit of 1Malaysia.

On the same emotional reason, why not we declare 31-August our national day too with the name: "Merdeka Day" or "Malaysian Independence Day"?

This is the only honest way to tell the world about ourselves - the truth of the birth of our nation.

We got our independence on August 31, 1963, and we formally formed Malaysia on September 16, 1963. On the other hand, The Federation Of Malaya, the peninsula part of Malaysia before it was born, got their independence on August 31, 1957.

The Federation Of Malaya was already a country for six (6) years before forming Malaysia together with Singapore, Sarawak, and Sabah.

Singapore was 'kicked' out after 2 years of being a Malaysian member state after some disputes with the then Tunku Abdul Rahman-led central government.

It's interesting to know that, prior to the formation of Malaysia, Singapore under Lee Kuan Yaw's leadership was the strongest advocate in the formation of Malaysia. The Sultan State of Brunei decided to opt out in the last minute due to an event of internal rebellion.
